Welcome to the Los Angeles Young Marines (LAYM)., a not for profit youth organization. The organization was developed in October of 2000 by Commanding Officer Ramon Herrera. Upon opening the program, CO Herrera realized the dramatic need for Angelino youths that instilled the Marine Corps' values and principals, which he realized during his tour in the Marine Corps. Always having a desire to open a program in Los Angeles that would provide a safe heaven for youths from gangs and drugs, the program not only allowed youths to receive the training they desired and introduced Los Angeles to the Marine Corps' values and principals, but also fulfilled CO Herrera's wish to help make an impact in the fight against drugs and gangs. Over the years the program has helped hundreds of youths and families realize a healthy and proactive lifestyle. More than ninety percent of youths eighteen and over, who have completed the basic training in LAYM have graduated from high school, approximately eighty percent have gone on to college. Although, CO Herrera has stressed the importance of higher education, several youths have joined our beloved service in the United States Marine Corps. While many complain about the degeneration of our city youths, few take a position to make a difference! The Los Angeles Young Marines prides itself in taking the challenge and meeting the mission!
Our Mission
To provide education and training to the youths and families in our community, so they can continue to be proactive members of our society, while instilling the continued need and desire for a healthy lifestyle and a college education.
